Tottori Prefectural Museum of ArtCompletion Date:2025
Completed in 2024, the Tottori Prefectural Museum of Art will inherit the collection and activities of the former Tottori Museum Art Department, in operation for more than 50 years. Located in Kurayoshi Park Square, adjacent to the mid-seventh century remains of Omidou Temple, the new museum doubles as a multi-functional community center dedicated to promoting local and prefectural artists in addition to the curation of its own collection. The Museum’s dramatic three-dimensional circulation atrium (named the “Hiroma”) allows visitors to enjoy the rich natural scenery of Kurayoshi while enjoying the artwork. Sheltered by a dynamic cantilevering roof, the Hiroma connects to all exhibition rooms and fronts directly onto the Museum’s southern plaza - a historical park incorporating the Omidou Temple remains. Linking the atrium to the park, an intermediary “Engawa” space accommodates other public functions, serving as a lively interface between interior and exterior. The museum is opening to the public in Spring 2025.
