Museum Reinhard ErnstCompletion Date:2024
The Reinhard Ernst Museum houses the broad collection of 20th Century abstract paintings held by the Reinhard and Sonja Ernst Foundation. Its simple, cubic building form is subdivided into four volumes surrounding a central exterior court, the smaller massing volumes corresponding surrounding older cityscape and following nearby eave lines and street facades wherever possible. The Museum's ground floor is designed as a highly public space with a wide range of amenities and functions, including education, restaurant, and gift shop functions. Open without admission fees, this entry-level zone also includes art installations and a dedicated forum space for events and parties. The second and third floor levels are dedicated to exhibits, animated with exterior terraces and views to the surroundings across the central courtyard - an intricate multi-level internal landscape of exhibition and public space. Overall, the result is a world-class art museum that still feels accessible and open to the city, giving art broad exposure and creating interest across a wide audience ranging from children through connoisseurs.
