Fukui Prefectural Library and ArchivesCompletion Date:2003
The Fukui Prefectural Library and Archives is in the suburbs of Fukui City, surrounded by lush rice fields and the Asuwa River nearby. Taking advantage of its natural setting, the facility is designed as a garden library surrounded by greenery. Open stack reading rooms are spread out across a single, large floor plate enclosed by glass curtain walls, creating a visual connection between inside and outside. Reading areas are concentrated around the perimeter, allowing visitors to enjoy the surrounding landscape expanse as they browse, visiting adjacent gardens during breaks.
