Hillside Terrace Complex I-ⅥCompletion Date:1969-1992
Hillside Terrace is a collective form developed over six phases between 1969 and 1992, corresponding to a continuously changing Tokyo landscape. A variety of design strategies create its unique atmosphere - including deference to subtle topographical changes, spatial layering, and the creation of protected exterior public space. The success of this project is a result of spatial and architectural means (scale, transparency, etc.) as well an active development of programs for public life. More than thirty years since completion, a wide variety of formal and informal events in and around Hillside Terrace continue to thrive in harmony with the architecture, maintaining this development’s unique cultural presence within the Tokyo cityscape.
