Keio University Library, Mita CampusCompletion Date:1981
The Keio University Library faces a lively student plaza, one of the most active spaces on its central Tokyo Mita Campus. In deference to the modest plaza scale, the library stacks - accounting for most of the new facility’s volume - are placed underground, and the upper stories are set back from the plaza edge. On the exterior, the library’s double-height 8-meter square module is further articulated with T-frame steel beams and smaller columns, responding to both the larger and smaller scales of its immediate context.
