SPIRALCompletion Date:1985

Spiral is an urban art center incorporating a variety of unique spaces for fine arts and design exhibitions, music, and stage performances. The architecture is characterized by a continuous looping circulation route (including the eponymous “Spiral”) that winds through gallery spaces, a café, an atrium and an assembly hall. The route serves as a stage for people to see and to be seen, interacting with each other, the artwork, on-going programs, and the surrounding city. Spiral’s exterior façade – a built-up composition of smaller details –reflects this complex building program and the evolving city around it. On the interior, the detailing is more personal, focusing on smaller scale, tactile, and tectonic considerations.
