Shimizu Performing Arts CenterCompletion Date:2012
As part of the larger Shimizu Station East redevelopment, the Shizuoka Performing Arts Center has become a new landmark on the Shimizu waterfront. Its glazed foyer faces the port with generous views of Mount Fuji in the distance - a highly transparent façade reflecting the building’s open atmosphere, inviting Shizuoka citizens and visitors alike to participate in a wide variety of programs inside. The large 1,513 seat concert hall is based on the traditional shoebox model; its multi-purpose design can also support shows and full-scale opera productions. The smaller 292-seat hall is intended for a wider variety of uses, including music performance and plays. Overall, the Center supports a broad spectrum of cultural activity and a wide ranging user base - from local residents of all ages through professional music and theater production companies.
