Singapore MediaCorpCompletion Date:2015
MediaCorp, Singapore, represents a new design ideal for broadcasting centers - an efficient and functional working environment that is simultaneously highly public, transparent, and open to visitors. MediaCorp’s design achieves this by showcasing their unique operations via an integrated tour route allowing visitors to observe the fascinating work unfolding inside, activity that is typically concealed in broadcast facility design. The building’s three primary programs (a 1,600-seat Performing Arts Theatre, a Broadcast Centre, and MediaCorp’s Corporate Offices) each have a unique form and distinct location. Collectively, these three elements are composed as a gateway, defining a public pedestrian spine and plaza, a grand stairway (its 50 steps commemorating Singapore’s 50th year as an independent nation), and a viewing plateau linking to a nearby park and animated with major public amenities such as cafés, restaurants, and gift shops. Visitors and passers-by alike enjoy panoramic views from the viewing plateau over the park, and to the larger Mediapolis development beyond.
