The Museum Reinhard Ernst (MRE) is a 8,900 square meter facility dedicated to the 20th Century abstract painting collection of Reinhard Ernst, and funded entirely by the Reinhard & Sonja Foundation. Located at a prominent corner near the center of Wiesbaden, Germany, the museum includes a wide variety of public facilities and event spaces arrayed around a central courtyard on its ground floor, with the main exhibition rooms on the two upper floors.
The building volume is designed to integrate with the historic stone cityscape that surrounds it, while maintaining a distinct and modern presence befitting a museum for modern art. Design of the MRE was begun in 2017; it is expected to open in 2023.
An exhibition, “Making the Museum Reinhard Ernst”, will be opening in Berlin at the Aedes Architecture Forum on May 13, 2022.
